  17. Several years ago I purchased a GVC 14.4 external modem and had *no* 
  18. problems with it at all.  A few months ago I purchased a MaxTech 28.8 
  19. external modem (Maxtech makes the GVC brand), and again have had *no* 
  20. problems with it at all, although I don't use the Fax capabilities.

  22. Byte (June 1995) conducted a review of 28.8 modems, and recommended the 
  23. MaxTech external 28.8 as Byte's Best for under $400.  In my opinion, you 
  24. have *not* wasted your money.  Some people seem to loathe such reviews, 
  25. but offer no such comparisons to their favorite manufacturer.  Given a 
  26. choice between such people's opinions and Byte's reviews, I choose to go 
  27. with Byte's reviews since the results are documented.  But that's just me.
